tweet revenge

Bold, daring, and Frost-sharp, Hedirman Supian of TODAY hammers down the last nail of reality about Twitter with this article published yesterday, on TODAY. Singapore’s mainstream traditional media has been giving Twitter a fair bit of airtime of late, from educating the basic (what is Twitter?) to pondering over the hype (why is Twitter so popular?) to riding the hype even (hey readers, here’s my Twitter ID, add me please!) but none has quite weaved in the ever-so-touchy topic of politics just yet.

I’m pleasantly surprised my quote was left unedited.

“Political parties need to be aware of any social domain where conversations are active and aggressive, because these are the same incubators where perceptions are formed as opinions are exchanged. The public’s perception is instrumental to the success and effectiveness of any political party,” explained digital strategist Patricia Law from the 360 Digital Influence group in Ogilvy’s public relations arm.

Quoting figures from Nielsen, she added that with Twitter’s annual growth rate of 1,382 per cent, it will be hard to ignore the importance of the online service.

I’m looking forward to more insightful coverage on Twitter from the local mainstream traditional media for the months to come. Give tweeples something they don’t already know without forsaking the need to be understood by the non-tweeples. I believe an equilibrium between the two can be achieved. Afterall, Hedirman has already proven that.
