3 new tools for listening conversations online
By Pat Law • Feb 8th, 2009 • Category: The Digital StrategistBen Koe, one of Singapore’s smartest and yet so humble social media evangelists whom I respect earnestly once said, “All social media practitioners need to monitor the Web for conversations made about their brands and products. Most don’t want to pay for it.”
There is truth in that statement. Social media practitioners, even those from agencies themselves, somehow think the tracking of conversations is free. Just to satisfy that economic side of you, here’s 3 new conversation tracking tools which have just came up.
1 | Serph: Track buzz in real time

The “right now” promise is attractive enough but my word, the collection of social media channels Serph deep dives into is impressive. The ability to track results by means of an RSS feed is thoughtful too.
2 | Social Mention: Say what?

Social Mention tracks blogs, microblogs, bookmarks, comments, events, images, news and even Q&A pages, for mentions specific to anything you search for. I appreciate the fact that they provide a Social Rank tracker (number of mentions within the last 24 to 48 hours) and general topline statistics that are interpreted into idiot-proof language (i.e. 1 mention every 15 days).
3 | BoardTracker 2.0: Forum discussion search

BoardTracker is a forum search engine, message tracking and instant alert system that fishes your search words in the forum/ message board environment. BoardTrack is currently tracking in excess of a whopping 1.2 billion posts. Good grief.
Have fun with these. Don’t forget to interpret the conversations into insights so that you can find the right solutions. Nope, sorry, there isn’t any online tool for that. That’s why people like us exist.
