b-boyz & ballerina

Granted the tough shit we have both endured at work, I thought I’d surprise my wife with a dance performance unlike the usual. No thanks to my penchant for break dancing (as a spectator, on a brutally honest and uncool note), I decided we should catch B-Boyz & Ballerina at Esplanade last night. Admittedly, I was a bit apprehensive about my wife’s reception to the show. She’s not a boring prune of a Mikhail Baryshnikov elitist, don’t get me wrong, but the show isn’t exactly Cats at the West End.

First to stun the audiences in Korea and at the Edinburge Festival Fringe in Scotland with their phenomenal gravity-defying power moves and precise popping for punctuation against beats for personality, B-Boyz & Ballerina is produced by the Gorilla Crew of Korea with members from both Able Crew & Brooklyn Monkeys – your top motherfuckers well respected by their competition in international dance competitions. I’m absolutely pleased they have made Singapore the first stop of their world tour which includes America, Japan, China and Spain.

I will save you the synopsis for anyone with half a brain knows that you don’t attend a dance performance show expecting a Sundance worthy storyline. You go to one because you appreciate the moves and grooves, and the culture that comes with it.

Better be getting your tickets fast, if you’re interested. The show ends this Sunday.

Check out the trailer here.
