zaha hadid for lacoste

Initially previewed in October 2008 during the Frieze Art Fair in London, LACOSTE’s collaboration with Zaha Hadid Architects has finally turned from a design prototype into a gorgeous limited edition footwear capsule collection few feet will experience.

By few, I mean merely 850 pairs in the likes of Colette in Paris, Dover Street Market in London, 10 Corso Como in Milan… and for my fellow fashionistas, BLACKJACK in Singapore. Yes, you heard it right. I hear there will be only 24 pairs released exclusively by BLACKJACK, so make sure you hurry along now when the shoes arrive come 20th July 2009.

The most distinguishing design feature of the limited-edition boots has got to be their strap closure system. A discreet piece of pliable metal (similar to a bicycle clip) is encased in the leather strap at its upper-most end. With the flick of a finger this strap coils gently around the leg creating the illusion of an invisible clasp. Thus the closure interacts with the fluidity of the design rather than interrupting it. The men’s version closes at ankle height whereas the women’s strap continues upwards to secure just below the knee. Now if only the Romans had these during their time.

The women’s boots are available in black and purple, whilst the men’s come in black and navy, at SGD729 and SGD699 respectively.
