I thought the first one seems like he would like to confirm your interest in the event that you have click on 'maybe'. Suffice he could have use private message but we all do make mistakes and start chatting on the wall instead sometimes.

The second one is a bit blatant though.

i do that a year ago to attract certain people to come to see my atwork (tagging someone into a picture) but stopped until i realized it become annoying, somehow to see too much notification commenting a photos that is not yours.
so i don’t do that anymore, and everytime people tagging me to unrelevant picture, or to some event advertising, i untag it the first time i see it.

but now sometimes i still tagging my circle of friends for a funny picture or to make a rendezvous/

Hmmm… looking at these posts…

I realise how desperate some people are when they decide to use facebook as their marketing tool. Like traditional media, content posted has to be relevant to the topics discussed….

But then again, because of the user generated content aspect of social media…. these things happen. Then it becomes the way its handled that matters…. Did David make an apology?

Hi Pat,
I share your views on this. The examples you mentioned are not social, in fact, it is blatant misuse of trust that you have extended by ‘befriending’ that individual, not cool. This used to happen a lot with myspace, self-promotion on others’ pages, which turns me off. For commerce on Facebook, i guess it is best to leave it on Fan or Event Pages.

There were occassions when my friends leave a comment on my Facebook wall which was totally out of context… but that’s ok, because it wasn’t meant to be self-promotional, though a private message would be more appropriate.

However, in your case, it is clear that he is using your popularity for his own cause. I would be furious if I am in your shoes.

OMG, this David Goh is a Ah Pek !? Old man not familiar with Facebook, I guess :/ . He never explained to you why he do that ?
Anyway, I do not fancy such behaviour in my FB wall too. I find it very offensive and irritating.

totally agreed.

i also get annoyed when people upload photos to promote something and tag me in it just to get my attention! i am not that piece of whatever you are trying to sell, damnit. also annoying when they upload a photo or link on MY WALL to sell said products/promote their site. post it on your own wall la! tsk!

Whereas Twitter with it’s short 140 char messages provide a quick and dirty way to ask a question, to give an invite, to ask an opinion, and most importantly for those looking for some lucre, to sell something, Facebook is something infinitely more personal and so much more important to those who are actually interested in the user as a person, and unless explicitly asked for some sort of interaction with the marketer, I really wouldn’t appreciate a pitch on a wall. Especially when it has ABSOLUTELY nothing to do with my post or without any prior invitation.

But this boils back down to the key issue of Social Media marketing no? The Personal touch that can only come with trying to strike up a conversation with someone. Even if he/she was previously, the sincerity should show and this was a blatantly insincere attempt at selling something.
