local sensitivity

By • Apr 4th, 2009 • Category: The Artist

A film student in her third year at NTU Art, Design and Media, Lee Shuxian stuns me with her sensitivity towards perspectives, as evidently displayed in her pencil works.

As first revealed on Culturepush, Shuxian draws her inspiration by artists such as Gustav Klimt, Jenny Saville and Audrey Kawasaki. I can see a bit of Klimtism in her oil paintings, but I can’t reconcile the love for Audrey Kawasaki really. Her works are clean, crisp, and distinctively sharp… Kawasaki’s like that last picture that floats in your mind as you inhale into the bong.

Read more about Lee Shuxian here. And oh, besides pencils and brushes, Shuxian’s other instrument’s a bass. She plays bass in The Lentor Incident.
