my brand timeline

By Pat Law • Nov 7th, 2008 • Category: The Advertising Slut

I have been meaning to do this for the longest time, since I first came across Jane’s thought-provoking brand timeline in May 2008. To finally get my ass down to it, I buzzed Daryl over MSN wee hours of this morning and invited him to collaborate with me. We scheduled for our brand timelines to be published by today.

Yup, I work well with deadlines. Although I’m kinda late with this. Heh.

The criteria we established for this experiment was simple; to include any brand we are likely to use on an average day. The objectives of this experience were:

1. To understand the difference between a Male and a Female’s brand consumption
2. To discover our own consumption behaviours
3. To determine the depth of brand loyalty we have for the brands we consume
4. To determine our own definition of a need and a want

Daryl has done a great job analysing his daily brand consumption by category rather than that of a time belt, as he finds its it more appropriate for representation. I’ve kept to the original framework, with the omission of Apparel. I do so because, well, I’m a vain fashion-conscious woman and I am unlikely to wear the same pair of jeans 2 months in a row (I know you do, you smelly men). Also, I dress to the occasion. If I’m up for a presentation in front of the board of directors, I’ll wear my Rolex coupled with black leather heels. If I’m not due to meet any clients that day, you’d see me in my good ol Levi’s and adidas kicks. So yeah, for me, it’s too inconsistent to include that segment.

I’m wary of the fact that I have to pop out for dinner soon. I’ll update later this evening if not tomorrow morning, on the reasons why I consume the brands as listed.

Meanwhile, get your ass down and work on your brand timeline, would you? I promise you it’d be fun, and extremely insightful. Be sure to share it with us.
