<p>The Tiger Translate artists got together on the third day for the last task; painting of the canvas that is going to be featured prominently on the stage. In this round, all the artists are left on their own, allowing them to freely expressing themselves on the theme of &#8220;Balance&#8221;.</p>
<div class="wp-caption alignnone" style="width: 510px"><a title="TigerTranslate_Day03-9 by inrsoul, on Flickr" href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/inrsoul/4953239893/"><img title="Artists working on canvas" src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4120/4953239893_c7edfd87d7.jpg" alt="TigerTranslate_Day03-9" width="500" height="333" /></a><p class="wp-caption-text">Artists picked out their own spot on the large canvas to work on</p></div>
<p>All the artists picked out their own spot on the large canvas, formed by joining smaller regular canvases, to paint on. This is where all their individual styles really shined through. They spent much time thinking about their ideas on &#8220;Balance&#8221;.</p>
<div class="wp-caption alignnone" style="width: 510px"><a title="TigerTranslate_Day03-13 by inrsoul, on Flickr" href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/inrsoul/4953241575/"><img title="Pure Evil and Tumen working on their art" src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4125/4953241575_7f5ec5959c.jpg" alt="TigerTranslate_Day03-13" width="500" height="333" /></a><p class="wp-caption-text">Pure Evil and Tumen working on their art</p></div>
<p>I will be featuring their finished work in another post. In the meantime, you can view the pictures I took for the day <strong><span style="text-decoration: underline;"><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/inrsoul/sets/72157624744361145/with/4953241575/" target="_blank">right here</a></span></strong>.</p>
<p>And by the way, I got interviewed by <strong><span style="text-decoration: underline;"><a href="http://www.unseentv.tv/" target="_blank">Unseen TV</a></span></strong>, yeaaaah. Maybe I&#8217;ll get my 5 seconds of fame. Heh.</p>
<p>Looking forward to the main event Friday night at Tiger Translate Mongolia, featuring live artwork on replica tiger and a DJ competition, plus Mongolian and band performances. After which, trance DJ <span style="text-decoration: underline;"><strong><a href="http://www.bartclaessen.com/" target="_blank">Bart Claessen</a></strong></span>, his first time to Mongolia as well, will be doing his thing on the decks till close it off. I&#8217;m stoked!</p>

<p>The selected four Mongolian artists for Tiger Translate are all young and talented individuals. Though language was quite the barrier, I did manage to get them to pose for some shots and also in the process get to know them and their work a little better. Here is some information I managed to dig up from them and their work. Also showcasing works for the first round of exhibition based on this year&#8217;s theme of &#8220;Balance&#8221;.</p>

<p>His work pictured above titled &#8220;Balance and Change (The Eye)&#8221;</p>

		</div>
<p>The Tiger Translate artists all got together again on Wednesday for another day of collaboration. In this round, they all got together to paint and decorate the inside of Ger (well, at least half of it). This is the 2nd part of a series of 3 challenges.  They got to do it any way they wish around the theme of &#8220;Balance&#8221; of course. I believe I failed to mention that one selected Mongolia artist will go on to the next leg of Tiger Translate Global Showcase, to be held in New Zealand at the end of the year. The judges for this competition consists of dignified Art representatives in Mongolia; Director of Mongolia Art Council, Director of Fine Arts University, Board Member of Mongolian Art Council and Director of Modern Gallery.</p>
<p>Though unfortunately this time, Liv Mortensen who has taken ill, had to pull out of the collaboration and return home to Denmark. We wish her all the best.</p>
<p>Meanwhile Mongolian dame, Tuyal, will now team up with Ben and Orkhon for the Ger challenge. Tumen and Badrakh are still teamed with Pure Evil.</p>
<div class="wp-caption aligncenter" style="width: 510px"><a title="TigerTranslate_Day02-6 by inrsoul, on Flickr" href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/inrsoul/4950006159/"><img title="Ben's Team Ger" src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4150/4950006159_7243264d7f.jpg" alt="Ben's Team Ger" width="500" height="333" /></a><p class="wp-caption-text">Ben&#39;s Team working on their ger</p></div>
<p style="text-align: center;">
<div class="wp-caption aligncenter" style="width: 510px"><a title="TigerTranslate_Day02-5 by inrsoul, on Flickr" href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/inrsoul/4950598128/"><img title="Pure Evil's Team working on Ger" src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4113/4950598128_66e2dd9cf9.jpg" alt="Pure Evil's Team working on Ger" width="500" height="333" /></a><p class="wp-caption-text">Pure Evil and his team working on their ger. Here you see the finished art of the previous day placed on the side</p></div>
<p style="text-align: center;">
<p>For the first time I got to see where the main event is held, and where we will all be hold up for the next few days. Tiger Translate Mongolia Global Showcase managed to find itself a large space decorated and built like a loft. Artworks submitted by contest hopefuls adorn the walls and on one side the Gers and a large canvas segmented into 7 sections are placed. The various artworks, both contemporary and traditional in nature, reflect the various Tiger Beer brand elements. This is apparent because of the use of trademark Tiger Beer colors and graphical representations of the brand and the animal, which is skillfully weaved into their final art pieces. It have been really tough for the judges to make their final decisions, because I did see some excellent works that did not make the cut.</p>
<div class="wp-caption alignnone" style="width: 353px"><a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/j-cGAKZbLsrXsuMevil0YA?feat=directlink"><img title="Other Artworks" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/_Kz_6pavMxlo/TH8n9NGzm-I/AAAAAAAAAGk/DafPI-dJNl4/s800/OtherArt_combo.jpg" alt="Art that did not make the cut" width="343" height="800" /></a><p class="wp-caption-text">Artwork from other Mongolian artists that did not make the cut</p></div>
<p>On Thursday they will be all working individually on their own segments of the canvas. Can&#8217;t wait to see what they&#8217;ve got for us! In the meantime, check out this <span style="text-decoration: underline;"><strong><a title="tiger translate mongolia - day 02" href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/inrsoul/sets/72157624736445531/with/4950598128/" target="_blank">small flickr set</a></strong></span> taken on Wednesday, 1 September.</p>

<p>Last night after a short flight over from Seoul to Ulaanbaatar, we checked into Bayangol Hotel, a short drive away from Chinggis Khaan Airport for the all-awaited Tiger Translate Global Event in Mongolia, make possible by Tiger Beer. Bright and early, the very next morning I got to meet the international artists for Tiger Translate from London, Copenhagen and Australia as well as the 4 local Mongolian artists. We were strangers no more.</p>
<div class="wp-caption alignnone" style="width: 510px"><a title="TigerTranslate_Day01-17 by inrsoul, on Flickr" href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/inrsoul/4946890515/"><img src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4126/4946890515_a62a025a85.jpg" alt="TigerTranslate_Day01-17" width="500" height="333" /></a><p class="wp-caption-text">Chatting over Mongolian food and Tiger Beers</p></div>
<p>All of us were herded into a mini-bus, to the outskirts of Ulaanbaatar. In the expansive landscape, a summer camp was built for government officials, tourists and the like; Mongolian Gers dotted the landscape. We got a brief tour of the place. Very importantly, here was the meeting of art and nature, East and West for the first time; befitting the Tiger Translate platform in bringing together the best of the East and West for a mind blowing art collaboration.</p>
<div class="wp-caption alignnone" style="width: 510px"><a title="TigerTranslate_Day01-22 by inrsoul, on Flickr" href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/inrsoul/4946892401/"><img src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4088/4946892401_a29da33dd8.jpg" alt="TigerTranslate_Day01-22" width="500" height="333" /></a><p class="wp-caption-text">Lamb anyone?</p></div>
<p>The collaborative partners interacted over a very traditional Mongolia lunch washed down with Tiger beer drank straight out from their bottles. There they shared their ideas and concept, albeit with some difficulty due to differences in language, we had translators on-hand to help with the barrier though.</p>
<div class="wp-caption alignnone" style="width: 510px"><a title="TigerTranslate_Day01-29 by inrsoul, on Flickr" href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/inrsoul/4946895101/"><img src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4147/4946895101_2b7c94b790.jpg" alt="TigerTranslate_Day01-29" width="500" height="333" /></a><p class="wp-caption-text">Pure Evil and his team working quite quick in their collaboration together</p></div>
<p>Today is the first part of 3 in a series where the artistic partners will collaborate. Without delay, they all got down to work on the theme of “Balance”, with their paints and brushes and canvasses of cow hide (or was that sheep). Here&#8217;s a glimpse of their work in progress.</p>
<div class="wp-caption alignnone" style="width: 610px"><img src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/_Kz_6pavMxlo/TH38vNsy4ZI/AAAAAAAAAFs/NPP9lrMamY8/s800/Art_PureEvil%2BTumen%2BBad_Day01.jpg" alt="The completed work of Pure Evil with Badrakh and Tumen. To support the theme of Balance, here we got an evil monster versus a good one. Guess which is which?" width="600" height="400" /><p class="wp-caption-text">The completed work of Pure Evil with Badrakh and Tumen. To support the theme of Balance, here we got an evil monster versus a good one. Guess which is which?</p></div>
<div class="wp-caption alignnone" style="width: 610px"><img src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/_Kz_6pavMxlo/TH38u2d7SUI/AAAAAAAAAFo/YzuikizO7kg/s800/Art_Ben%2BOrkhon_Day01.jpg" alt="Finished Art of Ben and Orkhontuul B. " width="600" height="400" /><p class="wp-caption-text">Ben Frost and Orkhontuul B. finished this piece. A &quot;Balanced&quot; view between what is deem traditional and what is seen as modernity. A picture was rehashed with an electric guitar and the face of child painted in the style of KISS </p></div>
<p>Watch out for a separate post where I&#8217;ll be introducing the Mongolian artists and the work that qualified them for this round. In the meantime, here are <strong><span style="text-decoration: underline;"><a title="tiger translate mongolia - day 01" href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/inrsoul/sets/72157624728898389/show/" target="_blank">pictures for the day</a></span></strong>.</p>

<p>There&#8217;s a thin line between being that film with a hundred film festival awards bragging badges on the promotional poster, and one that looks as though it was created on iMovie by an eighteen year old Mass Communications student high on weed.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone" src="http://img.skitch.com/20100831-byrscitthg7bstc2d7ayha9s27.jpg" alt="" width="393" height="525" /></p>
<p>I can&#8217;t deny I was skeptical of this film by <a title="boo junfeng" href="http://boojunfeng.wordpress.com/" target="_blank"><span style="text-decoration: underline;"><strong>Boo Junfeng</strong></span></a> initially. The promotional poster doesn&#8217;t do the film any justice. It looks like it was designed for a B-grade horror movie shot out of Thailand by some complimentary artwork provided by the colour separation company at Kallang Industrial Park. Which is a shame, really, for Sandcastle is the first local film I have seen in a very long while that manages to touch me where it hurts &#8211; my heart.</p>
<p>If there is a must-see film for the year, regardless of whether it is international and local, this is it. Find out more about the film <a title="here" href="http://imaginedfuturebenefit.wordpress.com/2010/08/26/sandcastle-boo-junfeng/" target="_blank"><span style="text-decoration: underline;"><strong>here</strong></span></a>.</p>
