this bag dissolves in water

November 2009′s issue of Creative Review comes in a revolutionary new bag that dissolves in water, taking the standards of green living one notch up. I am impressed.  The bag is made from a packaging material called Harmless-Dissolve which was created in the UK by Cyberpac.

Harmless-Dissolve is made from a hydro-degradable substrate which is 5 times stronger than normal polythene. It is a readily biodegradable, water soluble polymer which completely biodegrades in a composting environment, in a dishwasher or in a washing machine. It has no harmful residues and will biodegrade into naturally occuring substances. If you’d like to find out more about Harmless-Dissolve, holler over to Will Anderson at Cyberpac.

Skeptics may argue that it is ironic for print publications to be more eco-friendly. If you’d want to be kind to Mother Earth, shouldn’t you turn your print magazine into an online version? I hear them scorn. Well hey, keeping your computer switched on burns electricity, which isn’t good for Mother Earth. You can’t reduce your carbon footprint for as long as you’re burning electricity, can you? At least print publications are doing their part to reduce its readers’ carbon emissions with each issue. I reckon they deserve a pat on the back for their effort.

And in the case of Creative Review, their creativity too. Bravo.

  1. I hope it takes a little while to dissolve, in case I don’t get the mail on the day it rains… my mailbox gets things wet on occasion.

  2. Don’t worry Steven the material is set to dissolve at 60 degrees, so it should still withstand the rain. Just so you are all aware the material can be set to dissolve at specific temperature dependent on the application be it 5 / 40 / 60 degrees.
